Sealand Cakeshow 2013

This is my contribution to Sealand Cake Show 2013. I´ve had the image below lying in my "next project" folder for ages, and if wasn´t for Sealand Cakeshow, I never would have come to creating this little piece. -Which was fortunate, because it won first prize gold - much to my surprise! :)

Easter Bunny, Eggs and Carrots

A mini dummy - just playing around with a new type of fondant. Seems like the fondant-issues i´ve had are close to a solution. A major relief, since i have to make the most important cake ever; My daughter´s confirmation-cake a couple of months from now ;)

I´m beginning to look forward to play with fondant again. Loving this!

25.04.2011: Made it to Cakewrecks Sunday sweets-section - Yay! :) I´m so glad Jen headlined it "a perfect combination of elegance and whimsy" as it was just what i was aiming for - thanks Jen! :)

Vintage Easter

The incredibly cute hare-picture is found at the Graphic fairy

The top is stencilled - my aim was to make the colours look a
bit more patinised, but one only gets one shot at this, so...

Christmas tree

Christmas dummy.

Once again, textures from EdibleCreators,  love these.

The tree is made by piping royal icing shells on a styrofoam cone and is "recycled" from last year
- I´m so lazy!

Chrismas Bauble

Christmas is slowly approaching, thus a good reason for a little recycling - the topper is from last year; worlds-most-expensive-christmas-bauble.

I love my new textures from EdibleCreators - nice price too! -The borders are not cut though, but this can be done with a ruler or as here, with the end of a writing-tip.

Blue

In RL this cake/dummy is so dark blue that it´s almost black. It looks almost velvet-ish. Real nice! I´m still on a roll with Eddie Spence´s Royal icing methods slowly moving over to slightly different designs - and loving every minute! -Even though my wrists starts complaining...

Silvery Halloween

Liking Royal icing! :) -Allthough, next time i think i´ll use
templates rather than a couple of needle-points here and there..

The middle tier is made to look like a cast iron fence, i have this
really neat tip i never knew what to use for, but for this it was great!

The dummy is painted with 100% edible silver from Rainbow dust - it
took one bottle, thinned with clear alcohol on a white cake, two coats.

The shine! - I felt like i was decorating my cake-tins!

 In daylight, at Sofisticake.

More practicing..

I´ve been doing a lot of practice lately - learning by doing.

But i´m slowly getting there :)

Getting the hang on the topdesign

-But still a bit shaky on the sidedesigns.
Ok for starters i guess.

Scandinavian Cakeshow 2012

This is what i brought to Scandinavian Cakeshow 2012 - a small piece for the danish table. Not much due to the everlasting lack of time, but i felt the need to contribute even a little something, because TÃ¥rtdecor puts so much effort in this arrangement to please all us scandinavian cake-nerds. :)

We had a great weekend, i got home quite late last night only to take an early morning flight to the other end of the country to participate in product training regarding aggregates to forklifters -what a contrast- so now i´ll drag myself to bed to recharge for working overtime most of this week. -Yay.

Practicing the art of Royal Icing

This would be my 2. attempt of Eddie Spence-ish cake decorating... Or what´s left of it.

Lots and lots of Royal Icing has been scraped off again, including a lower Lambeth-method-piping border that made my eyes go sore...

...It´s all just because i´m missing the right sized tips!

Blossoms

This dummy took like an hour or so to make - you gotta love the Blossom Sugar art molds for a fast production.

You simply roll out your fondant, cut with the cutter, place in the mold - press, and then you have the cutest little flower with amazing details. On the backside also!

The colour is Wiltons Pink Terracotta - nice :)

Baby blue Regal Ice

Playing with Renshaws Regal ice, pre-dyed Baby blue. I´m not that big a fan of Regal Ice, but i found that adding a small amount of tylose powder to the fondant, it´s ok to work with, as this dummy shows. (pictures taken with an Iphone, through a window, and are not edited).
For borders and decorations a larger amount of tylose is needed.

Small crown from Patchwork cutters - The fondant holds shape nicely :)
Painted with Rainbow Dust Metallic´s, copper - Wow! Great to work with!

Rainbow Dust Metallic - Light silver - beautiful and delicate!

Rainbow Dust Metallic - Dark silver - so shiny.

Rainbow Dust Metallic - Dark gold - Wonderful.

Regal Ice on its own is not very useable for molds like the silicone-pearl mold, as the string of pearls breaks several times along the way when i try to remove it from the mold. But - by adding tylose again, it works!

Maybe Renshaws fondant is mostly for covering cakes? I don´t know for sure, but i know now that tylose powder does the trick for me anyways :)

Strawberries

Strawberries dotted with yellow non-pareils :) Took some time but was fun!

Cupcake-cake

Playing around with patchwork´s cupcake cutters.

-And the gerbera cutter from Wilton´s flower set.

Fun! :)
