This is my contribution to Sealand Cake Show 2013. I´ve had the image below lying in my "next project" folder for ages, and if wasn´t for Sealand Cakeshow, I never would have come to creating this little piece. -Which was fortunate, because it won first prize gold - much to my surprise! :)

Scandinavian Cakeshow 2010
I will not participate in Scandinavian Cakeshow´s competition this year because i won last year, but i´m invited to bring a cake for table of honour, so this years project will just be a small, humble creation.
-Yeah right...
This is what i´m using for decorating my cake this year - oh, almost forgot; and my best
friend, the sugargun and the 5-petal silicone flower mold. Allthough it does´nt seem much,
this will be the most detailled cake i´ve ever made. -Let´s hope it´ll look good too!
When the cakes are finished, the bottom of the top tier will show a bit (if you look),
so that´s were i started - covering the bottom of the cakes. I needed a bit more height,
so i used 2 thick layers of marzipan on both cakes.
The colours are not up for discussion, but they will look great in the end.
Sugar decorations; little red flowers - amongst the
primroses, broches, black leaves, hearts etc.
I love this first step - great design and not too hard to do.
Too bad it´ll hardly show after i´m done with it.
Starting to mess things up...

The cake is Oilily "Blue Sparkles" inspired. -And yes, it is slightly tilted.
It was loads of fun, breaking this design down to pieces and afterwards
transferring it onto a cake. Where to start, oh where to start!

So many details - and i even left out a few, afraid of overdoing the whole thing.
I hope you like it - i´m crazy about this design and how well it fits a cake!

The danish table: These are all cakes from danish cake-enthusiasts. Nice collection!
The AMAzing Carol Haycox - Doesn´t like being photografed, i told her
it comes with the fame! ;) - I could sit and stare and listen to her for
hours (i think i did) she´s such a great personality.
Someone was driving veeeeery carefully back to Denmark!
Fortunately not too much damage was done. No worries though, these dummies
have done their duty, and may have to get stripped anyway. Life is hard! :)

Scandinavian Cakeshow 2009
Scandinavian Cakeshow 2009 is coming up and i should´ve been half-ways done with my cake but i´ve only just started. Problem is, that i have no idea what to make. I already re-designed the whole thing twice and i´m still not happy. The category i´m attending this year is the Swedish Crown Princess´ wedding-cake. No more, no less! So i decided to start and design as i go along. This could be gettin´ interesting!

I´m sure the airport staff must have played football with my suitcases, because the dummies
are all dented and battered. Guess i´ll be starting from rock bottom.

Hey Piamarianne
Cheer up, I'm sure you can do it! I'm looking forward to seeing your contribution to the competiotion, although I wont be able to see it on site. I'll be looking at the pictures afterwards.
I wish you all the best and Good Luck !

Thanks Gunilla, that´s so sweet of you :-) I could use som cheering up - and maybe some crossed fingers! Too bad you and Alice are not coming this time, it was such fun last year. We´ll meet up some other time, i´m sure.
I´m slowly getting there with the design and i do believe it´ll be a fine-looking weddingcake - but i´m still working on the "over the top" bit.

Might as well start off with straghtening out the dummies. I´d like them a
bit taller, so i used Oasis for flower-decoration and cut some blocks.
Using my cake-leveller, i made sure they all were exact the same size.

-Glued them under the cakes...
-and fitted them with a sharp knife.

At this point, i still have no clear idea of what to do with this.
-Other than i want the colour purple to be present. And some roses..
Maybe "Queen of Denmark", that would be symbolic.
Time is running, better get on to makine 52 of these then.

-to fit into these, made out of 195 petals. Frilled, modelled, cupped and glued together.

So far so good. I know, the "Kerry-panels" would look great - but it´s kind of "been there - done that in 2007".. Still, i love them - and it really would look great. I made aprox. 90 tiny flowers, which decided to blow to smithereens when i tried to glue them on. In lack of time and great ideas i used little purple hearts.

I went with the panels...

Topview - 5 tiers.

The result of many, many hours of twisting my brains.
-But so much worth it when it wins the jurys votes!
I am very proud to have Geraldine Dahlke, Carol Haycox and Carolyn Harvey
looking at my work and even voting for it!!

Igen, stort tillykke, det er virkeligt fortjent.

Cath Kidston
Today i went to Kagekompagniet´s annual cake-competition with this Cath Kidston - themed cake. Louise and i decided to create our cakes based on this theme and it was great fun! -See photo of Louise´s beautiful cake here.
The teddy is made by covering a styro-foam egg with sugarpaste for the body and a smaller one for the head. Flowers are hand-painted with edible paint.
The dogs are draught excluders:
Them, as well as the covering of the bottom tier- is marzipan. Red is easier to achieve in marzipan rather than in sugarpaste. I want one of these dogs!!
The cake won 1. prize, so i get to get my trophy back! -From Louise! ;-)
The cake is a chili-chocolate cake with toblerone ganache and raspberry mousse.

Wow, this is really a fantastic cake!! I just love it, big congratulation on the 1. prize!

Scandinavian Cake Show in Sweden 6-7. Aug 2008.
Posted by Annette Tue, May 26, 2009 08:16:32
I wish I had known about this before I got back last year. I was in Denmark until Aug 4th and then when I got back to Canada I saw that there was a cake show!! Boy was I upset about that. Maybe next time I am in Denmark there will be something else happening :-)
take care,
Posted by Piamarianne Tue, May 26, 2009 20:19:46
Hi Annette,
I can strongly recommend the Cakeshow (though it´s in Sweden - not too far from little ol´ Denmark). The show is not too big or fancy (yet) but it´l get there, i´m sure :-)
My cake-friends and i are already booked for the next show, it´s so exciting to see what we´ll come up with!
Colours:
by Piamarianne August 26, 2008 19:34
Colouring sugarpaste can be somewhat time-consuming, at least if you are going for exactly that perticular shade. The sugarpaste-part was easy. I emptied my bucket of left-over-sugarpaste and mixed it into one big ball and got the most wonderful yucky colour! The hard part was to achieve the same colour for the pastillage. But after an hour or so, the colouring was (almost) alike. Now i just cross my fingers, that there´s enough, because im not that lucky once again..
The cup is from one of my daughter´s ice-creams in France this summer. I knew i would need it some day. And it´s perfect for my fountain Competition is 10 days away, my schedule is full and i haven´t even started yet!
Fountain
by Piamarianne August 27, 2008 19:12
Most of the parts are done. I have to wait with the last parts till tomorrow. The pieces have to dry completely before i can lean other parts on them. The real fountain is in poor shape, but it´ll be too time-consuming to add the patina. I´ve had problems with the design of the cake, big parts having to go on small sides etc, so i´ve had to re-design it whilst making the parts..
Dummies
Posted by Piamarianne September 01, 2008 16:25
I´m so releaved now that the dummies are covered. Don´t know why, because that´s the easy part, but i feel like i´m finally getting somewhere.
Vases
Posted by Piamarianne September 1, 2008 19:05I must have tried out every single piece of cake-gizmo i have - and i have a lot!
I needed a mold of some kind, and finally i found one i could use. Had to re-mold it and add detail to fit though.
Now i have to finish six if them...
Flooring
Posted by Piamarianne September 2, 2008 20:14
The flooring came out great. I´ve been washing the floor with water and maizena flour again and again, trying to achieve a used look. I like it.
Barrels
Posted by Piamarianne September 3, 2008 21:00
I´ve been avoiding these till last moment, i did´nt quite know how to make them, but as it turns out they were totally easy and came out just right in first attempt! :)
Finishing
Posted by Piamarianne September 4, 2008 22:30
Still have to finish the fountain, but my "artistic veine" has run absolutely dry for now. I have a few hours tomorrow to spend on this project, so i really hope the fountain will behave! -Cross fingers!
Posted by Piamarianne September 5, 2008 10:41
I somehow managed to finish the cake. It has been a busy few weeks, and this cake topped it all.
It´s not completely how i wanted it, I´m satisfied but i would have loved to have more time to add the final touches such as branches, weeds and the patina.
Pia, your cake was amazing!! Thank you for sharing :-)
